ARGGG...
I just watched the first Steaming pile that is American Coupling. I do not think I can put my disgust into words, so I will sum up the horrors in such a way as to understand yourselves.
Ok, first off, Let me say that I actually thought Steve and Janes performances were the best of the six. They added a bit of American insight into their charactors (my favorite of which was Jane playing games on her cell phone while she was waiting for Steve to get a condom).
The Charactor of Saily was not bad, but not good eaither. She wasn't concerned about her looks as much as she was severely depressed about them. It seemed like she just gave up.
Geoff was dissapointing, but then again, I was not expecting someone to be able to play the part better than the Original Crazy Welshman. He had some interestingly transformed quips, but since their was nothing original, he did not impress me.
Susan and Patric disapointed me the most. Susan seemed to be talking at twice normal speed during every scene. She also acted as if she was reciting the lines alone, and going through the motions of acting simply for her own sake. Patric was very wooden in everything he said and did, and I think the only time I didn't forget he was there was when he was being an ass and making fun of Saliy. He was supposed to come accross as swave and sexy, but he instead chose self-centered and shallow.
A general comment that I think must not go unsaid, is that None of the actors did more than the most basic line recital and stage directions. They didn't act, so much as recite. I very much miss the subtle facial reactions to certain comments from original coupling.
I did appreciate each of the Commercial breaks having a scantly clad women in it, but even that didn't help the overall feel of this disaster.
Well, I think that there were a few quality British->American changes in some of the analogies (Hand-stamp, Titanic, and the whole condom thing), but the story line is being held too rigidly to the original. The Americans are simply unsucessfully imitating the already amazing acting of their British Counter parts. Much of the subtle humor/charactor development was left out for the sake of time (or possibly a stupid audience) and this nailed the shows coffin by making it extreamly, Extreamly, EXTREAMLY one dimensional. This gave them the unforgivable problem of dumb humor, in which they instantly looked for a laugh strait from saying a line.
Overall, I wish this series burns in Hell and does no harm to the Real Coupling.
{This is the only good line from that huge steaming pile of Fairy CRAP!}

[We know, its crap also, but hey, I work with what I get.]
